Pete, this really comes as a surprise. An appreciative article about Jelena to elicit a long rant is not what it was meant to do. Her accomplishments are noteworthy, and what she brought on to the court with that fierce and fun attitude remains unmatched. I am a part of the loyal fan following that you talk about, and every now and then it feels great to read something about JJ. Tyler, as he says too, had no negative intentions 🙂 All of us here love JJ, and always will.
This fantastic woman gave a lot to tennis, and I am still hopeful for a return because you never know!

Where is Jelena Jankovic?
She’s living life well without reading keyboard geniuses like you.
I don’t know (or care) whether you’ve ever picked up a tennis racquet and tried to learn the sport, but I will remind you that Jelena worked her way to the top of the sport. And she stayed at the elite level for many years. Her total number of wins is among the highest in women’s tennis history. She made a country proud and helped many young women dream of and pursue this most popular women’s sport. In any profession, to be the best of the best on a worldwide basis ought to earn a person some respect.
Yet, in 2019, people like you are still calling women that exhibit intensity and anger, “head cases.” Think about that. With your head and your heart. You don’t speak that way about men players. It’s 2019 and those judgmental and insulting words just effortlessly came out of you, which ironically suggests you’re the head case. JJ never threatened a linesperson, never insulted another player, she was known as a good competitor with intelligence and humor. Your writing is not an honest accounting of why her results declined. Her injuries, those pernicious injuries so common to the tour, are the reason. JJ played a lot of matches in pain and without full mobility.
Slamless. That is a low-effort, superficial characterization of a tennis career and unfortunately poor writing like that is pervasive. I’ll correct you. Jelena has won a mixed doubles Wimbledon title. More important, she took Serena to the brink at the US Open, in Serena’s house, at Serena’s prime. JJ has produced some of the most exciting matches and match-ups in women’s tennis. She has earned a loyal fan following and is a credit to the sport. I can only image how hard it would be to get a ticket to a 2021 Halep-Jankovic Indian Wells final. And what people would be writing about it.
Players come and go, but anyone who has seen her will never, ever, ever forget Jelena Jankovic.
